Actual antidote
Humility
Pride is shame that learned to stand on other people’s necks.
Humility is not humiliation or making yourself small. It is accurate self-placement: you are neither above nor beneath other people, and you do not need to be exceptional to be real.
Shame says ‘I am beneath people’; pride says ‘I am above them.’ Both remain inside the same court of comparative worth. Pride gives a brief lift, then makes criticism, mistakes and ordinary performance feel like a fall that must be prevented.
Practice humility as contact with reality: name what you did well without turning it into rank; name what you do not know without turning it into a verdict. The question is not ‘am I better?’ but ‘what is true, and what is mine to do next?’
